WHAT TO EXPECT

YOUR COMFORT IS MY PRIORITY

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of conditions can be treated with massage therapy?

There are many different conditions that may benefit from treatment, including headaches, TMJ dysfunction, bursitis, frozen shoulder, tennis/golfer’s elbow, joint pain, muscle strains, whiplash, and many other recreational or work-related issues.

What techniques are used?

A variety of techniques are used, depending on each person’s needs. Lydia has been trained in a number of techniques, including Swedish, Deep Tissue, Neuromuscular Therapy, Jt Mobilization, Trigger Point therapy, and Myofascial Cupping.

What is cupping therapy?

Cupping therapy (fascial cupping) is performed using silicone, plastic, or glass cups that are applied to the body in order to cause a change in the tissue. The tissue is drawn into the cup causing a stretch, and encourages blood flow to the area and potentially a decrease in the amount of tension within the tissue.

How often should I get a massage?

The frequency of massage therapy treatments depends on your reason for seeking treatment. If it is a more recent injury/irritation, Lydia may want you see you once a week/biweekly to attempt to help alleviate the problem. Most often, it is a timeline determined between you and Lydia after your first treatment.

Do I have to fill out a health history form for my RMT?

Providing a complete and accurate health history form allows Lydia to design an effective treatment plan specific to your needs.

What do I wear during a massage therapy treatment?

Depending on the area being treated, Lydia may only request that clothing be removed from that area (ex shirt off for upper body treatment, etc.); however you are free to undress to your comfort level, for most that being undressing to your under wear. Lydia will always have you lying underneath a sheet for your privacy and comfort.

How can I expect to feel after a massage?

You may notice an improvement/alleviation of your symptoms, or you may feel sore for 24-48 hours after with improvement following. Both are normal!

How many treatments will I need to feel better?

The course of your treatment plan may vary depending on the type of injury you presented with and how long it has been a problem.

What is your cancellation policy?

Lydia has a 24 hour cancellation policy, meaning that if you are not able to give a minimum of 24 hours notice that you won’t be attending your appointment, you may be required to pay half of the scheduled treatment cost. To avoid this, send a replacement! Let Lydia know that a family member/friend will be attending your appointment instead. Just be sure to include their contact info in case Lydia needs to send them forms to fill out.
If you no show, a full charge will be placed on your account, and must be paid in order to book another appointment.

Do you direct bill?

Not yet! I am planning to be registered to direct bill by my return in the Spring.
